OpenAI has teased plans to relax restrictions around adult content, and that feature may be coming soon, if strings of code spotted in the latest ChatGPT app update are accurate.
Android Authority dug into ChatGPT’s latest v1.2026.055 build and found references to “Naughty Chats” hidden within the code. The code says, “This setting lets ChatGPT use spicier, adult-themed language when you ask. Available to users 18+ only.” It also confirms that these features would require age verification.
That’s all it says, and there’s no clear way to activate the feature at this time, suggesting it remains in development. This is the first time we’ve seen OpenAI call this upcoming mode “Naughty Chats,” and it’s the latest we’ve heard since Altman’s teaser in October 2025.
OpenAI recently introduced an age-prediction tool, which uses factors such as how long an account has been active, when it’s most commonly used, stated age, and other usage patterns to determine whether someone is being truthful about their age.
If the user isn’t verified as an adult through this process, they’ll be moved to a teen experience. You then need to send a selfie to OpenAI through a verification process run by Persona, which will confirm your age.
ChatGPT’s upcoming erotica-friendly mode won’t be activated unless a user specifically asks for it, in line with comments Altman made last year. “You won’t get it unless you ask for it.”

Many other AI platforms allow for more adult-themed language. Some of ChatGPT’s rivals have been criticized for lacking guardrails, such as Grok’s now-restricted ability to make non-consensual sexual imagery of real people.
