New York’s La Guardia Airport was closed late Sunday evening after an arriving Air Canada Categorical airplane and floor car collided, authorities stated.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a floor cease for the airport and stated there was a “excessive” chance that the order can be prolonged.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport, advised CBS Information “a Jazz Aviation flight working on behalf of Air Canada was concerned in an incident” on a runway wherein the plane hit a PA firefighting car “that was responding to a separate incident.”

CBS Information senior transportation and nationwide correspondent Kris Van Cleave reported that pilots of United Airways flight 2384 aborted its takeoff when an anti-ice warning gentle come on. They reported an odor within the cabin and requested that firefighters come to help. The pilots stated flight attendants have been feeling sick and declared an emergency when no gates have been instantly obtainable.
Van Cleave stated the Air Canada airplane, Flight 8646 coming in from Montreal, had landed and was slowing down, going 24 mph, when it collided with the PA car. He stated the collision most likely occurred as passengers have been getting off behind the airliner.
The Air Canada airplane suffered important injury, Van Cleave stated, including that it was a CRJ 900 — a smaller airplane. Jazz Aviation stated it had 72 passengers and 4 crew members “though that is topic to affirmation.”
Air site visitors controllers apparently tried to cease the firefighting car, recordings Van Cleave listened to revealed.
